It’s always exciting at Me2U Centre for a variety of reasons. We’re constantly exploring new options to improve our person-centred service, add more fun activities and we’re also seeking out opportunities to enhance our understanding of old people’s mental health.
Having said that, this week has been far more exciting than most, as it was the week our founder Rosie Whittington was declared the winner of an Enterprising Women’s Award, announced by The Women’s Organisation for the category “Health & Wellbeing Business of the Year”.
This news comes just seven months after the opening of the Me2U Centre with co-founders Amanda and Angela.
Rosie is a remarkable person who is able to fit more into the day than most people do in a week. Taking on the Me2U Centre from its inception, as well as juggling a fulltime job as a mental health nurse, family life and staying fit, it’s no wonder she has been recognised for this accolade.
Rosie’s love and positivity ensure that Me2U is a respite day-care centre unlike any other because it’s driven by passion.
Rosie possesses a natural attitude of gratitude – The kind most people endeavour to adopt, but she has it in abundance. This means she is always thankful for the input of stakeholders, clients, fundraisers and friends.
Her modesty made her believe she had only been nominated for the award when in fact, she had won it.
The journey has been mindblowing. My gratitude goes to the Women's Org as they have been there for me from day one and then when the girls joined me. I was amazed when I realised the impact I had on Janine and the team at the Women's Org.
Our founders took on the Me2U project independently without the backing of investors or any large corporation, motivated by a passion to help people with dementia to live independently for as long as possible. Through their efforts and the support of the people who attend Me2U, we have been able to increase our opening hours and take on more members of staff.
Me2U Centre has gone from strength to strength, implementing new activities and developing new facilities, such as our sensory garden, and now we are looking to design a Men’s Shed.
We’re determined that Me2U Should be a community hub that extends the hand of friendship and care to all our neighbourhood.
This award is the first of many! Watch this space!
